Noticed that myself but wanted to make sure it was a trend and not just a wobble.

I noticed that also. Is there any good news to report? It keeps getting worse.

The slight northerly trend is noted in the 11 p.m. Discussion.

Slight weakening before landfall? A whole 5 knots?

Sorry...

I suppose i'm a veteran... but no met here...
http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/tropic/real- ... 8dlm3.html

If you notice... the ridge has moved/reformed slightly westward. This is allowing causing the ridge to have less of an impact on the storm (steering currents).

I just came in from working, so i haven't looked at much... so i can't tell you why... i'm simply linking you to the map showing why it would be nudging northward some. ;)
-Eric

EDIT:
Also to add.. Rita was not very semmetrical, and was wobbling as she was wrapping her convection arround her. Now that she is semmetrical that should stop... lets see if the northward progress continues.

REMEMBER... That Sat. Image your looking at is from 11pm (Sattelite Blackout)

What's moving north? We haven't had a satellite update in over an hour now.

Remember that sat image your looking at the latest one in the loop is at 3.. something GMT. Which is 11pm. Sat. Blackout isn't over until later in the morning... so until then we can't use sat to track.

ALSO... Why use sat. when you can still use the key west radar... :)

i appreciated don sutherland's comments (& excerpts) on what this hurricane means for the texax coast; assuming that it does come in where forecasted, what kind of rainfall amounts can be expected in NOLA?

Moving North? She is still on an essentially WEST track. She is not even moving near WNW at this time..1n and 1.4w in the last 12 hours hardly constitutes anything akin to a North movement. Maybe North of the forecast points, but still on a Westerly track.

They said tonight on the news around 1-3" and a 1-3 foot storm surge...so nothing really.
