Total Population Size in Texas Counties, 2000

#1 Postby Hyperstorm » Wed Sep 21, 2005 8:16 am

Here's an interesting map showing the total population size in Texas counties according to the 2000 Census. You can have a general idea of how many people will be impacted if the storm takes the projected path.

Yep - there's a whole lot more people along the Texas coast than most folks would imagine.

My sister tried to find a place to evacuate to last night and the closest they could get is Ardmore, OK. Everything in the Hill Country is booked - even the litting out of the way properties that don't have a web site. Everything due north is booked since that encompasses mandatory evacuation routes and Katrina survivors. So, her family is in for what would normally be about a 6+ hour drive turning into much more than that. At least they're playing it safe and getting out.

I think this map gives a better representation of where the people are in Texas, one green dot = 100 people.

Can any Texans explain to me why Kennedy county is not a developed county? Is there some geographic reason or is it just slower to develop like the forgotten coast in Florida?

History of Kenedy County, TX:

So it's a case where all the land is basically owned by 3-4 old ranching families who don't feel any particular need to change anything or sell anything off.
