Katrina or Rita?
Obviously, for the damage of a storm to ever exceed that of Katrina, special circumstances would have to take place. New Orleans was asking for as disaster, with bad levees, a low sea level, and not enough people listening to the warnings. So, it would be within reason to suggest that a storm could hit land stronger than that of Katrina but still cause a lesser amount of damage.
With that said, I'd like to gather some opinions on the following: Will Rita be a bigger hurricane than Katrina? This is not in terms of how much damage is done in dollars or in loss of life/property, this is simply in terms of will it be stronger? Will there be a lower pressure, higher winds?
Will Rita outdo Katrina?

I think considering the time frame prior to landfall we are moving into, the potential for catastrophe we are all too aware of in light of recent events, and a sensitivity for the duress that many of our neighbors in Texas are under at present, that this is an inappropriate poll at this juncture.
This and any polls wanting to "take the pulse" of what S2k members opinions are as to the degree of damage and destruction that Rita will cause should be discouraged at the very least.
I'm sure that many Mississippians and fellow Louisianians might concur with my opinion.
Just my 2 cents.

I'm pretty sure you missed my point here. In fact, I know you did, so I'd appreciate it if you read what I say before you comment on it. I specifically said this was not damage-related, just the brute power of the storm. If anything, this is just another warning sign of what the Gulf residents could be in for again. As fresh as Katrina is in our minds, any residents in the path of a storm that is being compared to Katrina should have an even better understanding of what they could be in store for. You can take this poll as a "taking the pulse" of "damage and destruction" if you choose, but that is, as I said in my FIRST post, NOT the reason behind that. I'll say it again, just once more, to clarify: This is simply to see what others think about how strong this storm could become. Katrina is being used a barometer/comparison tool, and there is absouloutely nothing wrong with that.

I second that opinion. The "my storm is bigger and badder than your storm" mentality is inappropriate at this time. Let's face the facts here. This is going to be a major disaster for somebody. Let's help them prepare and help them get through the coming days.
With this current rate of intensification, we know that it will be quite dangerous and deadly.

Granted, on second reading your post is not in the vein which I initially took it. My apologies. I recall a few polls and threads that were in dubious timing and taste in the days prior to Katrina's landfall and I guess I'm a tad oversensitive to that right now.
Just trying to keep the thoughts and feelings of our Texas brethren in mind in the days ahead.
