Rita is category 5?

#1 Postby Aqua Teen Hunger Force » Wed Sep 21, 2005 10:15 am

HOWEVER...OBJECTIVE T-NUMBERS FROM
BOTH TAFB AND THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN CIMSS ARE PEAKING NEAR
7.0 ON THE DVORAK SCALE...SUGGESTING WINDS OF NEAR 140 KNOTS. I
WILL WAIT FOR THE PLANE TO REACH RITA TO INCREASE THE WINDS
FURTHER...IF NECESSARY.

we will know shortly....the eyewall isnt perfectly smooth on IR which tends to be the case in cat 5's......it would also mean a near record "bombing".

id vote no.....

There's a discussion about Dvorak estimates. This thing could have been a Cat 5 as of 8:45 EDT this morning.

no, cat 4.

recon found around 140mph surface winds and 934mb. rule of thumb is 920 or so and 156mph for cat 5.

assuming strengthening continues at same pace it could be cat 5 in 6 hours though........and the window of opportunity for cat 5 still open for the next 12-24 hours.

there is no such thing as "cat 5 pressure"....and 150-155mph is cat 4.
