Give JB Credit!!

#1 Postby gk1 » Wed Sep 21, 2005 10:24 am

He predicted this storm to form before it was a disturbance. He also said it would threaten the Gulf States. He is very good a seeing patterns and formations in the early stages.

I admit it.. I'm a JB hater.

Some like him though so will spare them a long tirade of a post of why I find him to be a lying egotistical jerk that has no buisness being on national TV providing 'entertainment' instead of truely forecasting weather the way the NHC does. Everyone has the right to their own opinion. :P

Good point on the pattern recognition. His August update did call for a major to hit Texas, a major to hit the Carolinas (not happened), hurricane hits to SE FL and a major to hit the MS/AL/FL zone.

:)

I can't believe you guys take this stuff sooooo seriously
Joe B is just voicing his opinion based on HIS forecasting like everyone else....if he wants to disagree with someone, he has his first amendment rights
Besides, don't you all realize what yous are doing? Its like a Reverse Psychology Deal....the more we fight over this..you're only giving him what he wants...he says sometimes outragoues things and he gets attention...the more attention thats focused on him, the more he will broaden his audience and *everytime* he says something outlandish, he gets a reaction, which gets him even MORE attention!!!!!!
IF you Noe B Naysayers, just ignored him, maybe he wouldn't be as "popular" eh?
I see him as the "Howard Stern" of Meterology...the guy is brilliant, funny, saavy...and he puts a unique spin on things......yes sometimes he may say things that are a bit off the wall and act goofy and stuff, but thats a part of his Personna....Just like Howard Stern, he says alot of stuff too and alot of ppl don't like it, BUT....as i said, its the reverse psychology thing..the ole saying goes, there is no such thing as bad publicity....the more you give these ppl attention, the more famous or infamous, depending on your viewpoint of them, they will become.
Just like with Married With Children, when it first came on the Air, there was a woman who raised a stink about it and ppl started tuning in and it become a hit....just like a Guy who used to come to my channel on IRC..he said alot of wacked out things, but he always got a reaction...it works everytime!!!!
The Bottom line is, you ppl out there, need to chill and let Joe B Be himself and express his first amendment rights!
I am a Joe B Fan and i am proud of it! Although i haven't watched "Point-Couterpoint in awhile...or seen his videos, i still enjoy seeing him on Fox and what not..when i do....he grabs my attention....and THAT is the Key folks! Grabbing someone's attention and keeping it
My God you people, you make it sound like he's attacking someone in your family or something....you need to RELAX!!!!!
As i said before, with all due respect to the NHC....what turns me off about them sometimes, is there forecasters tend to be boring...when i see them on TV....and secondly..with some of these calls they've made in the past...they're so conservitive...like i can remember several instances where we're sitting in Teamspeak, saying "why haven't they upgraded", etc etc...its only with Katrina and Now Rita, that i can reall them really going out on a Limb and being Bullish and calling things as their Gut tells them!
Joe B if you or any of your associates are reading this..Rock on Bud...you're great! :)))))

I guess you're the one who decides what people do and do not discuss on this board. I am glad that has finally been settled.

Isn't he just great. I am thinking of training a monkey to predict hurricane landfalls. I am sure my monkey will get it right a few times too. 8-)

I have a myrid of reasons for not liking his type of forecasting. But will give you one reason why 'I think" (personal thoughts here) it is a HUGE problem. If everyone starts hearing about every puff of a cloud that has the potential to blow up your going to run into a complacency problem.

We already have issues with people saying they are always getting missed and thus not evacing. Media has a huge impact on how we see things. I hate the mentality that it is ok to do whatever you want on TV (including how howard stern is on TV... and I absolutely won't go there..that man makes me SICK). Personally i think reporting/Mets shouldn't 'entertain'. These types of situations are indeed serious. Peoples lives/property/family/buisnesses are on the line here.

There is a responsibility with that. What JB fails to report is how often he misses forecasts. He makes people think he is more accurate then the NHC. This leads the mentality that he is better then the NHC for info. This can be a dangerous assumption. I would rather depend on a whole team of specialized mets then just 1 met for my info.

Personally I don't care what he does on the net... my concerns are what he's doing on national news stations, dealing with a population that while they know things, are usually not super informed about how hurricane forecasting is done.

Hurricane anxiety, always fascinates me the amount of the controlling behavior exihibited when a major cane threatens landfall.

Maybe we should label it "pre-landfall stress syndrome", and then market hurricane pills or perhaps just a bottle of scotch aka canehooch

...snip

I couldn’t agree more… same basic problem we have been experiencing in South Florida since 92 when Andrew graced our area. To some, Brian Norcross lost some of his credibility in the mid 90’s due to the “Puffy Cloud Hype” factor; he has to his credit, calmed down since last year. But JB is in a class all by himself. Ok so it appears he has Rita pegged, only question now is which will get bigger over the next 48 hours, Rita’s wind field or JB’s swelling head…

"JB fans" need to tone it down. We don't need to give him any additional credit for simply doing what is called for in his job description.

just something to ad....the MB is down to 908, JB called it right...Cat 5, 915 :)
So maybe that will give the JB naysayers something to chew on :)
Now lets give the man credit, even if some do think he's a jerk....the man got it right, *again*
