This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Motion has shifted to the right.

#1 Postby SamSagnella » Wed Sep 21, 2005 2:23 pm

Over the past couple of hours, as several others have also noted, Rita has apparently shifted her track to the right. Whether this is a temporary change or not is impossible to say for certain (its definitely not a standard wobble), but what is certain is that for every minute she moves even a couple of degrees to the right, the landfall point will move farther up the coast. (Galveston?)

EDIT: I guess the bottom line for me is that I expect the NHC 5pm landfall point to be shifted to the right (up the TX coast).

"a couple hours" and "not a standard bobble" are contradictory statements imo.....

she went perfectly through her last forecast point and has bobbled nw for about an hour since.....you can expect a west bobble to make up for it......just a standard bobble.

Actually... it's about time she started gaining some latitude. Going west for another 12-24 hours would have caused the track to be shifted south...

Satellite jumping around

#6 Postby hriverajr » Wed Sep 21, 2005 3:05 pm

I think it is just the satellite picture jumping around in relation to the overlay. If you look closely you can see the jumps in the last six or eight frames or so.
