what is the formula to convert from FL to GL?

No, 161 kts means 165 mph ground. I haven't seen a new report in, but winds are sure to be higher now.

I would say with the deeping near 175 or 180 mph?

Buck, if the wind reading is at the 850 mb level, take 80% of the reading. If at the 700 mb level, take 90% of the reading. In other words, from 850 multiply by 0.8, and 700 multiply by 0.9.

based on d-values it looks like pressure should drop a few mb.

I dont know, the vortex and dropsonde arent up yet. Maybe the drop malfunctioned.

Max Mayfield just said on KTRK 899mb and that the dropsonde had gone crazy because the winds were "just that strong".

Hmmm. I wonder if it could ever get too dangerous for them to be flying in these things. Anybody ever heard of the possibility of a flight being cancelled due to bad weather? LOL
