SEVERE WEATHER CHECK-IN

#1 Postby GalvestonDuck » Mon Sep 19, 2005 2:31 pm

Hey, gang!

A request from the staff:
If you would please (and feel comfortable doing so), could you PM your contact information (any of the following: cell #, home #, work #, and/or a # where you can be reached if you evacuate) to mf_dolphin, chadtm80, CajunMama, or GulfBreezer? That way, in the event that we don't hear from you for a while after the storm, we can make attempts to reach you and get updates on how you're doing to let the rest of the S2K family know. Your information will remain confidential.

Furthermore, if you guys could post here and let us know when you're checking out (even if you don't send in your information) and then check back in when you can. That way, we don't all worry and wonder.

Stay safe, stay prepared, and stay in touch! We care about you.

Thanks!
The Storm2K Staff

(Starting this as a new sticky and as a fresh thread for Rita.)

Nothing I'd call severe yet...but we're seeing effects from outer banding. Few hours ago we got rain driven wind with 25mph gusts. Recent gusts reported at 3 surrounding cities via neighborhood weather has been 30mph with passing isolated storms.

Are you an insurance adjuster? LOL. That's the only time I hear that.

Dark, cloudy and windy here. Just had some rain.

Also, you might want to give at least your first name. If someone else answers, they might find it silly to hear something like "Is swampdude there?"

Windy, stormy and gray out. We had a good feeder band around 2:45 PM. Of course, that was the time I was obliged to go outside.

Blew through in less than 5 mins. Real heavy ...then nothing. These storms are really bookin!! Another cluster of showers will be here soon.

Checking in here

#12 Postby Eye10TX » Tue Sep 20, 2005 10:33 pm

I haven't been very active on the forum, although I was around when it started and posted with many of the Storm2K old-timers on another hurricane forum before this one.

Just wanted to check in, since I'm all alone and riding it out in Houston in a new place whose storm capabilities are unknown to me, though I lived just a few blocks away for 10 years before this. I'll PM a mod my info.

Please people... Let us know if you are going to evac.. even if you dont want to give out personal info (although I can tell you it will be very safe to do so!)

I know I will personally worry about each person who is in an evac zone and have multiple heart attacks if I dont know if you have gotten out of harms way or not!!!

Please fill us in.

Are you riding it out in a wood structure Eye10Tx? I worry for you since you say you are alone. Have you been in hurricanes before?

I'd be interested to know who is riding it out and where they are located. Has anyone thought about a thread like that?

Not exactly in a hurricane, as such, but tornadoes in Oklahoma (not the BIG ONES) and TS Allison here in Houston. I'm not scared, but have a healthy respect for this monster Rita.

Have plenty of food and supplies, water and ice, batteries, TV and so forth; a good safe interior space, which also happens to have my bathroom and kitchen within its "cone of influence," lol.

Just worried about a south-facing picture window and the stress of the power outages afterwards, if prolonged. I have many, many staying all around me and I'm in an area that didn't get water in the homes in Allison, like I didn't, either.

(Oh geez, 898mb now!)

(And now Bellaire is going to be evac'ed--that's just about where I am.)

Not to worry--I have touched base with more people today and feel a little better about it than I did this morning and last night. I'm scared, then I'm not, then I am, then I'm not.

I'm certainly in AWE, if nothing else.

Thanks for y'all's concern--I'm a praying person and will probably be speaking in tongues by Friday night, but am including all of my fellow SE TXans in my babblings.

"Running from water, hiding from wind."

"Hoping for the best, preparing for the worst."

I'll be heading east to Perdido Key (I think) sometime today. May take me 2 days to get there! My husband is insisting on staying. I can't talk him out of it and I was quite rude to him. I'll take my 2 kids and pets and be safe.
