Hi, thanks for this.

I have another question about waves, but don't want to start a new topic at this time. So, since it's sort of related, mind if I post it here?

What are the sea conditions right now in places like Grand Isle, Biloxi, etc?

Here's why I want to know:
09z - Center 24.9N 88.0W, movement 285 degrees at 8kt. Pressure 897mb is 3rd lowest in Atlantic history. Winds 150kt (173mph) with gusts to 185kt (213mph). 12-ft seas extend 275 nautical miles in north quadrants. 34kt winds extend 160 nautical miles in north quadrants.

Update: 12z advisory places Rita at 25.2N 88.3W, distance in nautical miles:
Grand Isle 260
New Orleans 307
Biloxi 317
Mobile 320

Does this mean 12 ft seas at Grand Isle right now? What about Biloxi?

Buoy 42040 (64nm south of Dauphin Island, AL) has been reporting 14-16ft seas since 5am CDT. So there are some decent sized waves not too far from the shores of LA, AL & MS.

No way this thing survives....it is already reporting 45 kt winds and 30' seas....we should take an over/under on when it craps out.

because the water is so shallow off most of the coast... 30ft seas end
up breaking way way offshore. Biloxi, for example, has horn island
about 6 miles south of her... and the waves are about 15 feet out there...
the waves are breaking about a half mile offshore. The surge has started
to effect us already here. The Mississippi sound is about 2-3 feet above
normal right now...

Grand Isle will likely go under again tomorrow night...

Here's a buoy you don't have...it is over the Flower Gardens (we use it to forcast waves for dive trips):
