Argument with Mom: She's evacutaing to New Iberia, LA
She is at my throat because I'm staying in Houston. However, The track keeps shifting East and SW/LA will be on the dirty side. In addition to her waiting until today to leave, traffic is backed up on I-10 East. It may take her an infinite time to make it to a place where she will have to leave again.

Since I know nothing really of your local geography, I can only see the obvious...suggest she go west or north instead of east, or...you leave with her to somewhere else, all options that no doubt you've thought about. But whatever you do, our thoughts are with you and your mom, as well as the rest in any harm's way for the best solution, and safety.

Evacuating to New Iberia = terrible idea.
In fact, that sounds like one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. Forget about the "dirty side." They may very well get the full brunt. Tackle your mother before she gets out the door and throw her in a closet.
This reminds me of Floyd in 1999. My parents who lived in S. Florida wanted to evacuate and drive up to NC. After questioning their sanity, I convinced them to stay in FL.

Take her keys. Jump on the car. Anything just don't let her go.
Show her the traffic online. It's madness. Hicksta traveled 70 miles in 15 hours. He posted this morning, traffic is "moving" at 5 mph.
New Iberia is not a place to evacuate to, it is a place to evacuate from.
Show her that New Iberia is under a Hurricane Watch and how close they are to the water. STORM SURGE!!!
When the 10 am advisory comes out , more people will start evacuating
from coastal Louisiana.

Dumb BIL and is wife, and two elderly parents just left to head to LA. I told them not to, but they wouldnt listen.
If your are planning to evacuate later today and are north of the coast. Please wait a few hours and let them get contraflow open and working. 12 hours in car sitting with 3 kids and dog is a recipe for disaster.
Also, 4 or 5 hours now it could be heading to LA and you might be better off staying put.

Exactly, I realize I will be on the clean side of the storm. Better to stay put then head to Louisiana.

The problem Dwg71 is that no-one here in Louisiana of any high rank is saying anything at all about this thing. I have not heard one word about contraflow. This is alarming.

My father is a truck driver. He made a delivery in Houston yesterday and then got on I-45 N at 3:30pm. He didn't get to Dallas until 1:00am this morning. Ordinarily, he would have been there by 7:00pm yesterday. If traffic was THAT bad yesterday, I can't imagine what it's like today.
While I understand that some things in life are totally random, I tend to look for patterns. I'm starting to see one with the NHC's predictions of gulf storms, they make landfall about 100 miles east of wherever they say it's going. Katrina, they said NOLA, hit Biloxi. How many times did Pensacola get whacked with something that was supposed to hit AL or MS?? Models need some tweaking when it comes to predicting that ridge?
