Alexandria and Shreveport are places people are evacuating to I wouldn't be worried too much about them (unless they are in locations prone to flooding)

I'm no expert, by any means, but IMO unless you're 100 miles inland and/or at least 35 feet above sea level, I'd be getting out of dodge. I know it's difficult, but it's better to be too cautious than not cautious enough. I hate to say it, but I think Katrina was a trial run compared to what Rita will be. And we all see the devastation she caused. If you and your family can get out safely, then I would.
Good luck. Our prayers are with you! Keep us informed.

I can just give you my own experience in the last year. We have had two Cat 4 hurricanes headed straight for us 24 hours before landfall in the last year. In both cases the hurricane has moved East just before landfall. Thank goodness we were spared both times, but those people to the East of us were caught off guard. By the time the storm curved it was too late for them to leave. If you're anywhere close to the coast and within an area that could flood East of the eastern most strike probablility area you may want to consider moving North for the night. For Katrina we weren't in the cone, but we were told to evacuate low areas because of the storm surge. We're a 2 1/2 hour drive from NO ---- how far are you from the Eastern most part of the cone? The coastal areas were severly damaged in our area.
