Okay, well that is confusing, as they have downgraded it to 150 mph winds. Seems like if it is showing the highest gusts so far, it shouldn't be being downgraded.

What flight level was that at? Katrina has a 230knt gust at the 633mb flight level, also she was downgraded to a 150 Cat 4 right now.

Those winds were recorded early this morning when it was at its peak. Gusts are nowhere near that now.

Gust vs. Sustained Winds

#11 Postby NFLDART » Thu Sep 22, 2005 1:03 pm

Those types of gusts are recorded at upper flight levels and are nowhere near what surface level winds are. Also gusts are not sustained in duration. Even a thunderstorm can produce very strong Gusts.

Maybe you should ask the storm2k admins to make a kids only section on the forums for you.

 As funny as it is to me that someone wants this thread renamed (Let's face it, there are a lot of bigger issues right now - No offense intended, Jax.)
I findi it HILARIOUS that Mike_Hawk has had nothing to say until now. His 1st post and he's directing Jax to the kid's section.

Relax everybody! It's gonna be okay.

I also think that the term "Holy Crap" may in fact be copyrighted by a fellow member, who will remain anonymous.
