Oh yeah, when I saw JB on Fox News I decided then and there, HE IS A DORK!

I really never had paid attention to accuweather in the past because between Intellicast, NOAA, Weather Channel, and Storm 2K I could get all the info I ever desired. Now I really don't like them and will talk bad about them every chance I get. Where do they want people to believe they get most of their data anyways? UGH

Couldn't resist a note about an appearance by JB on CNBC yesterday. I had never seen him before. He was making a big deal about how he, JB, stood by his forecasts of several days earlier while other, presumably lesser, forecasters had shifted their forecasts tracks. I couldn't figure out why he was making a big deal about this, since a true forecaster HAS to adjust forecasts as the weather throws curves and loops. I would much rather listen to a forecaster who makes use of models and builds their changing data into his/her forecasts rather than somebody who throws something out 5 days ahead of an event and then sticks by it in the face of changing data.
Decided then and there that Joe B. was a waste of time.

Why would they undermine them like that. Or am I opening a can of worms by asking.
Not a fan of JB or accuweather.
Because they are a bunch of jerks over there.. They undermine them because they are greedy and want everyone to listen to them not NHC.. NHC is in it to save lives.. Accuwx is in it for the dough.. I do not and will not use any of accuwx products

I've found many of accuweather's graphics that have been linked here to be totally useless. Anyone could go find a model based map and use it in certain situations to advance a personal agenda, in this case to make the NHC look bad. Is accuweather's map based on model output, or did they pull out their box of crayons?

accuwx misrepresentation
Being expressly "experimental," how can the NHC graphic be described by Accuwx as "designed to be used by government and emergency management officials?" It's still under development.
The NHC official (and non-experimental) forecast plainly brings a major hurricane to exactly the coastline where Accuwx places it's "90%" zone of hurricane winds. So what's their problem?
From the Accuwx/JoeB. forecasts described on this board, my strong impression is that they're less accurate than NHC. I also wonder if their differences with NHC are hyped precisely because they figure folks will mostly remember occasions when they get lucky.
Expecially when they hype such an event after the fact. And they'll out-guess the NHC sooner or later, I suppose. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

After reading that, I want to move to Florida just so I can vote for Nelson.

Email I just sent Accuweather:
I find the comments your company had about the NHC graphic to be totally unnecessary and over the top. That graphic is, in fact, meant to be used by public/emergency officials...not the general public. It is an EXPERIMENTAL graphic that shows the probability of a certain strength of winds over 5 days affecting an area. It makes logical sense so emergency officials can prepare in stages. Remember it is experiemental...so I'm sure it will clarify somewhat.
I'm sorry, but NHC is much more qualified and successful in this arena. All we have to do is look back to Ophelia to know that is true.
If this affects my education at PSU...I don't care. It needs to be said.
