This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Who is NOT evacuating for Rita??

#1 Postby MBismyPlayground » Thu Sep 22, 2005 10:36 pm

Hurricane Rita is affecting MANY areas,(TX, LA, and beyond)
There have been TONS of mandatory Evacuations ordered all over.
I would like to know who is NOT evacuating or who has evacuated but now think it may not be far enough.
I also would like to know if any of you have considered having some kind of "buddy check" system among members of Storm S2k, in these areas.
Many of you live close to one another. Some of you could suffer less damage then another, or none at all. But if everyone worked together, and network their resourses, it might help a little.
People taking care of one another. This way if someone is in a bad situation, there might actually be a little help right there in their own backyard. Just a thought here.

My parents are stuck in Houston, simply impossible to leave at this moment. They'll try to head west if the traffic lets up a bit, but right now, pointless.

We will be riding it out. We are not in a mandatory evac zone.

I am fully aware of this.
What I am suggesting is that the people who are NOT evacuating can use this thread to "find" one another, and network resources.
Since evacuation from the coastal TX area has become a traffic fiasco, at least these people may have a way to support one another in a different way. By the time the hurricane actually hits, do you actually think there will be internet access to let us all know they made it or need help??

I hope that they will be able to evacuate but if they are unable to evacuate to they have some type of support network set up in the area?? People that will check in on them or that they will check in on??

Sorry--didn't mean to offend. I am praying for all of you in harms way. I wish I could do more. I know how it feels.

No, we don't know anyone in Houston. We're from New Orleans so they're just living temporarily in Houston. As of right now, they should be alright as they are in SW Houston. I think their last resort will be to go to a church in Katy to ride it out.

So they do have a place of last resort , with others to help them just in case. I think that is my biggest concern.....the people who are still there not knowing a soul, to help them.

Bev, not offended at all. :) Since I am not close enough to offer much assistance.....I try to think of things I WOULD do if I were in the area where I COULD help....Or if one of my family members were there.
The one thing I know I would want is to know of someone who could try and check on my family. If I were there or near enough, I would offer my assistance to check on family members. As much as I could.
If this thing turns out to be a messy(such an ambiguous word) as Katrina, then it might take time to get aid into those who need it. But if we have our own little networking of people and resources, who knows what might happen.....even one of our own saving another one of our own... we just don't know.... But hey, it is worth a shot.
All I can say is I hope everyone stays safe and takes the right precautions that have been discussed here.
BTW, I DID add a blow up boat(raft thingy)with oars to my hurricane kit, just in case.
