If it makes landfall on the border, we will do fine here in Houston/galveston. But iI fear Extreme SW LA will be hardest hit. LEts hope current trend to the east continues. With lopsided shape of storm, Dirty side is going to be 2-3 times worse than clean side.

DWG, Paul here checking in from Pearland. 18 hours on 90 W to San antonio got me nowhere, I am home riding this B@#&^ out because I'd rather bite it at home than bite in a car with no gas in the middle of cow pasture....

Many of my neighbors and family, other than myself, left and were gone for at least 12-14 hours only to return home. I'm glad I didn't leave. I think you made the right call.

I agree with you guys. Evacuations need to be reevaluated. There is no need for folks on high ground with sturdy structures to leave. Better to hunker down.

Yes sir, I think your right. Inlaws are here with me now. Mother inlaw woke up at 4am sreaming pretty much "we are all going to die" because we couldnt get out. She wants a back up plan to go somewhere else. I told her there is no more plan. This is it. We ride it out at home. Thats it so calm the hell down. People like that just eat at your own resolve. I have to stay strong for all of them eventhough thay are my inlaws.

NWS for Pasadena, Pearland, wind estimates show 60-65 gust to 75 for Pearland, Pasadena 65-70 gusts to 80 if present track/ intensity verifies. Basically Cat 1 winds for a period of maybe 4 hours and then TS winds for another 4......this wil be all over by Sat afternoon early evening.

GOOD LUCK to all out there in my shoes...DWG hang in there brother....

Paul, we tried 90 as well, we only sat there for 6 hours but still only got 3 miles. So we are in the same boat as you.

Hang in there.

I am riding it out with fiance who has never been through anything like this, he is from Amarillo so he is used to Tornadoes...I rode out Alicia when I was 5 so I only kind of know what to expect, but he keeps panicing. He calls home to Amarillo and is basically feeding his parents a line of bull that we won't get anything so they won't freak out.

Keeping him calm has worn down my nerves, I was hanging over the porcelain bowl earlier.

My prayers are with those in Rita's path. Hang in there and check in when you can. We worry about everyone and are thankful once each time someone is able to let us know they are ok. *huggies*

Personally, I think this is an excellent thread where we can keep track of our friends as long as communicatins stay up-hopefully the whole time. That's what this community is all about. Friends helping friends. I think it shou dbe stickied!!!!

Weather conditions, etc. can be obtained from other sites but posts from the heart belong HERE.

Good luck all. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Stay safe and don't take any unnecessary chances.

There are quite a few of us in this together here in the Houston Metro area. Everyone be safe and act smart!!! It won't be fun but we will get through this. If you have not sent contact information to the staff yet I urge you to do so so that we can check on you once this is over. The people who have the list keep it confidential. All that is needed is phone no's. and a first name, if that is all you are willing to give.

I went through Alicia also and unless Rita comes back further West for landfall I expect about the same conditions, but we won't see the eye W. Houston where I am.

I have started a reporting thread and stickied it at the top of the forum. I too will be reporting as long as I can and praying for all of you. I ask that you do the same for all of us in harms way.

*cheers*I couldn't agree more! While the site is based on weather informations, our members safety and wellbeing are 100 times more important than any recon report (and i'm a recon freak). THAT is what this site is truely about! Weather safety and preparedness that may save lives! A report in/ current conditions thread is always stickied during a landfalling storm and I check on is nonstop.

The news needs to be more realistic regarding riding out a storm when you're somewhat inland with no chance of flood ---- especially if the winds are going to be under a Cat 4 in your inland area. The biggest threat in that type of situation is a tree coming through your roof ---- especially pine trees. So look at your house and if there are large trees try to determine what rooms of the house they could fall into ---- move to rooms away from that area. If your windows are boarded and you're away from falling trees you should be fine. I know there are small tornados on the right side, but they're not everywhere and I've heard the tornados are F1's not F3's. Tell your family that I went through a weak Cat 4 (Fredric) and took FEMA applications after the storm ----- I don't remember even one house falling down --- there were trees through some roofs and trees down everywhere, but only one or two people died (I believe they were in mobile homes) . The only total devastation was in the low areas that flooded and very close to the coast. I have been in your situation twice in the last year --- do I leave ---am I far enough inland ---what am I in for? I am hoping after Rita and the Houston evacuation disaster that someone will research the "real" danger for people who live inland in area's that don't flood.

Prayers are going out to all of you in the path. Please post as long as you can. I have a very good friend that couldn't leave. Her and hubby live in Huffman, TX right by the Woodlands. I am worried sick about her. Neither one have ever been thru a hurricane. Please stay safe. Debbie

Good Morning All,

I have to say it is a beautiful morning in Katy. TX. Cooler with a slight breeze. But off to the south I can see the outer edge of Rita. Cirrus clouds starting to move in. I agree.....HouTEx....Let's get through this.

God Bless all and stay safe!
