This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Well, I feel for our friends in the affected areas of Louisiana, and Texas. Hurricane Rita will be a huge disaster. The storm surge with this hurricane will be massive...although the storm may weaken more. Hopefully it will. However, the main areas of Texas...Corpus, Brownsville, Houston, Galveston, appear to have lucked out again. Although there will still likely be an impact, they may not even have landfall in Texas, although it is still entirely possible. Nevertheless, it has been 6 years since a major hurricane has stuck Texas...and it looks like this year they might not recieve a direct landfall. However, the already battered areas of Louisiana and low lying areas like Cameron Parish appear to want to take the brunt of the surge and winds. Let's hope it weakens more, and be glad that the big cities in Texas may have lucked out.

Thanks Naso for the input, its always appreciated. Tell Rita that Beaumont is a main area and maybe she will head even further east. She is currently East of track and has been jogging NNE every couple of hours in her stair step towards the border. I too believe that Houston and Galveston have dogged a bullet, still going to be tough, but nowhere near worst case scenerio. Unfortunately, more people will probably die in the evacuation of Houston Galveston than will die as a result of Rita. My father is currently in the CYFair hospital, suffering from Dehydration and an elevated heart rate. They are transporting him to ICU now.

I cant get to him, and that sucks.
