So I take it you've been talking directly with Rita? The TX threat isn't diminishing, it's still there. SW LA might have more of a threat, but it's not a give and take situation. BOTH are bad and BOTH need to worry.

But, IMO, the NHC and the media is playing down the whole situation because of the bad scene playing out in Houston. More then a million people are stuck on our freeways and if Galveston was still forecasted for a direct hit, mobs would break out and it would turn into a NOLA-like situation. I just have an uneasy feeling that once the freeways get clear, the track will shift right again.

You can't look at satellite and know exactly where the storm is going to hit. If that was possible, we'd have perfect forecasts.

Print out the map, draw a line through the latest three or four fixes, which (if the map extended far enough west), would show the line running into Texas. So even on it's current heading, it would hit Texas.

oh ya, im not saying to let your guard down, ive been through many majors and that is the worst thing to do, but chances are going down for texas and its already north of the forecast which currently shows a texas louisiana border...but always keep your guard down, but it is looking better

Just my opinion, but I think that the major issue here should be not if Rita is going to LA or Texas, but when it lands how much damage and loss of property will occur in both LA and Texas. The exact point it lands at is not really that significant as the area that it is going to affect. Again that is just my opinion

Looks to me that she is DYING to go further north (and finish her sister's destruction), but she is being held down, and at the same time getting her act back together too and strengthening. My concerns now would be just being on the east side of this beast is going to be no fun, and even quite a long ways east from the looks of it. NO looking like it could see alot of rain from Rita no matter what.

The exact point it lands at is not really that significant as the area that it is going to affect. Again that is just my opinion

i know we hear that alot and its somewhat true....a large large area will be "affected" adversely regardless of where landfall is....but to say its not signficant is somewhat untrue.

the exact point of landfall up to about 40-70 miles east will receive extreme devestation well above and beyond the areas outside of that range due to the storm surge...as seen with katrina. so the exact point of landfall...in the end...is very important.

I agree with what you are saying, I was referring to all the arguing about who is right and who is wrong, the posts to me seemed to be getting a little away from what the topic was about.

Lafayette just got a tornado (I actually heard it go by) and some strong 60-70 mph gusts in hte last hour. really getting intense out htere. but for osme reason, Im just not scared htis itme. Its exciting and it hasnt been frightening at all.
