So I take it you've been talking directly with Rita? The TX threat isn't diminishing, it's still there. SW LA might have more of a threat, but it's not a give and take situation. BOTH are bad and BOTH need to worry.
But, IMO, the NHC and the media is playing down the whole situation because of the bad scene playing out in Houston. More then a million people are stuck on our freeways and if Galveston was still forecasted for a direct hit, mobs would break out and it would turn into a NOLA-like situation. I just have an uneasy feeling that once the freeways get clear, the track will shift right again.
