Im in Houston and all I have watched is local coverage. Is the focus on the people of LA? It appears they will be much more affected by Rita than Houston/Galveston.

CNN's Rob Marciano is in the Beaumont/Port Arthur area and has been reporting once in a while too. He warns that a lot of the area will be under water, most likely.

I expect the conditions here to be about the same as we had with Alicia in 1983 or maybe a little less on the west side of the city where I am. We had Cat1 conditions for several hours during Alicia. I expect about the same strength in W Houston with possibly a longer duration which will cause massive tree damage and bring a lot of them down on homes. Definitely SW LA and the Beaumont/Port Arthur area will be hit much harder than Houston, but the effects here will still surprise a lot of people that think we are "in the clear".

(In Orlando) Coverage has been more and more on NO/LA and the flooding as Rita seemed to be sparing Galveston and Houston the big hit. The Houston coverage was mostly about the people staying behind, the evacuation problems and the bus fire. Now it's all reporter/reporterettes getting soaked and blown silly. One was acting surprised at how the wind was frequently "smacking her in the head".

Hey - Guy on Fox just had HAT ripped away Seriously, how long before one of these storms finally bags some of these reporters? They're right there in the wind; maybe not the main force, but easily strong enough to bounce something off their head or put an eye out. No one is even wearing a helmet, visor or goggles (make it a double).

I keep waiting for the straw-through-palmtree trick or the Steve Martin arrow(like) projectile through the head gag.

Well generally they don't really stand out in the open. They usually find a nice concrete area to report from. The only time I really saw danger was when during Katrina I think it was they reported from in front of a hotel and had to dodge some debre.

Evendually one will get tagged , thow I dunno if we would actually hear about it unless they are for one of the major networks CNN/FOX/ or TWC.

Jim Cantore had a "come to Jesus" moment during Katrina. He admits he was never so frightened as when the storm surge started filling the parking lot and he was 29 feet above sea level. If one of them does get hit by debris I hope it's in the head so it won't be serious....LOL
