Everyone'd better be out of Cameron

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Bay St. Louis and Pass Christian were pretty much wiped off the map.

t will not be wiped off the map....and if thats just an expression and is not what is meant than why say it.

Because I give most people credit for not being stupid enough to take it literally.

As a point of reference, Cameron was almost completely submerged by Hurricane Audrey. Now that was a more powerful storm, but it only produced a 12 foot storm surge in Cameron. If this storm produces the same kind of surge, and everyone is saying it will, then the results will be the same.

Cities along and just east of the eye will have severe damage from the storm surge. Cameron may not be erased from existence but the damage is going to be bad. Waveland and other MS cities along the coast received a lot of severe surge damage from Katrina and for talking points in a way having 90%+ of your structures destroyed is like getting wipped off the map.

IMO pictures out of Cameron and other areas just east along the coast aren't going to be pretty when the public finally sees them.

Okay...I'm going to make it crystal clear.

Image

The arrow is pointing to the town of cameron with the lake to the north and the gulf to the south. The strip of land on which cameron is situated is less than five miles wide and has no elevation higher than three feet. Let me reiterate -- there will be a 15' storm surge... minimum. Explain to me just one more time what is protecting this town from the surge.

Kind of a big oops, but the lake to the north of cameron is calcasieu lake not lake charles.

Ha actually no I didn't intend to spell it that way. Was a typo.

Lake Charles is to the North of Calcasieu Lake. The elevation does not get above 20'msl till you get north of I-10. There will be extreme devastation in the Cameron area and Lake Charles will not be a pretty picture at all either.

How high is the surge? This hurricane was strogner the Katrina...So I expect the surge to be quite high. Higher then you expect with 120 mph. But maybe not as high as it would of been if it where to have hit 36 hours ago.

Rita is not stronger than Katrina at landfall. Latest winds are 121 mph. Surge has not been "measured" yet, but is expected to be in the 20' range.

I certainly hope no one is riding it out in Cameron. Because they're probably in the Gulf of Mexico right now.

The entire city is under mandatory evacuation. Usually most in that area heed the call since they have been through it before.

the 2 statements:

cameron will be wiped off the map
lake charles wont be a lake but a bay now.

are overly dramatic and outside bounds of reality.

First hand accounts from somone that just returned. Waveland...Pass Christian gone.

I think the name "Audrey" is enough to clear out Cameron.

There's a little bit of both of those towns left, but Waveland, just to the west of Bay St. Louis, had its entire tax base (read: constituents' homes and businesses) swept away by Katrina. Now that truly is wiping something off the map.

We had an agreement. To my utter dismay there is nothing left of Cameron. Here's the evidence. Which crow dish would you like?

I'm upset at the bold headlines of the Tampa Tribune this morning "MORE ROAR THAN BITE". Tell that to the families in the affected areas. Tell that to the people of Cameron.
