Remembering hurricane Jeanne

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Fri Sep 23, 2005 10:11 pm

I know with all the Rita news.. This may be an inappropriate time to go back in time a year..

But lets' stop a moment and pause and remember hurricane Jeanne from a year ago, Jeanne was the 3rd of 3 hurricanes to hit the Central Florida area last year immediately following the destructive Charley and rain maker named Frances.

I remember her, she knocked out my power for about 1/2 a day, she wasn't nearly as bad as Charley (power was out for 4 days), but she was worse than Frances. But compared to what Jeanne did in Haiti when she was a tropical storm, it wasn't too bad here in Orlando.

One I won't ever forget. It was pretty bad here in Melbourne. No power for four days here. Many of the wind recording stations failed before the peak of the storm. I don't know how strong the winds were here, but they were definately higher than the winds associated with Frances. If I had to guess I would say there were some gusts to 100 mph as it made its closest approach to this area. She was a very large Hurricane as well, much like Frances, only stronger.

I remember Jeanne very well. It came in here on top of me and it is a night I won't soon forget. The wind was horrible and I thought it would never end. I still was not over Frances who sat on our coast for 24 hours beating the crap out of everything and shredding my nerves :( I have been a nervous wreck all season afraid I would have to go through that again. The season is not over yet and I am holding my breath till it is. I for one am ready for the season to end. I have seen enough destruction and suffering with Dennis Katrina and Rita.

You tell me about Jeanne! She was quite far away from here and she still managed to created more damages to my house.

I had just finished cleaning the yard from Charley and she gave me 2 more days of cleaning! :grrr:

I would compare Rita closer to a Jeanne than Ivan or Frances, but flooding will be Rita's trademark.

If Rita stalls and stays for a few days, she'll be like Frances was here.

Jeanne was much faster, more intense, but most of the damage was already done 3 weeks earlier.

Can't believe its been a year already. Seems like just yesterday. I had to go to Miami so I didn't get to really experience it. But just from what the neighbors said it was definitely much stronger than Frances.
