"Hunker Down"

#1 Postby zeusman » Sat Sep 24, 2005 10:42 am

Is this new to this season? You cant watch a newscast or story without hearing a reporter talking about people "hunkering down" or we will "hunker down"

Did we "hunker down" last season?

Here's a kind of funny "hunker down" story:

A friend of ours rode out Ivan here by himself last year-- he decided not to go with his wife and kids to their oldest daughter's place in Memphis. He is a really big guy (6'4") and is pretty stoic. The night of Ivan he was in their home with all his tools, plastic sheeting, radio, and lantern. He said when the guy on the radio annouced, "Okay, folks, the hurricane force winds are starting. It's time to hunker down," he wanted to run screaming from his house! Apparently those words sparked his flight-or-fight response and he wanted to fly! He absolutely hates the words, "hunker down" now and friends and co-workers will say those words just to tease him.
