I was having a discussion with some civil engineering friends of mine and we thought it would be really great if they re-built NOLA with a kind of Sci-Fi concept of building the entire city on "stilts" but ones like those used in oil rigs. We were just thinking that by using this method there would be no worries about the city "sinking" any longer and that the only things they would have to worry about would be actual wind damage rather than the horrible flooding that has occurred and is occurring right now.
Unfotunately, this design would lead to people making comments about "Logan's Run" and "Waterworld" and such so we know it will never happen. Although we still think it would be cool to be able to walk on street level right on to a massive ship like a cruise liner or super tanker.
Just a thought we had and I know it is something that sounds like it came from "Futurama" or some such but you have to admit it would correct a lot of problems and still be a decent way to re-build a city. Of course, the end result would end up looking like an arcology which some have further objections to seeing built.

This is just horrible. All the work that was done to pump water out of the city, just to have it happen again. But as I posted in another thread along with soupbone...parts of Terebonne parish (houma area) are also flooded...with people being rescued at this time with 8 ft of water in their homes where water has overflowed their canals...or levees have broken. This isn't being reported on the major news networks...the only information im receiving is from the internet. My prayers go out to those people and I hope they will be rescued and brought to safety.

Not one death. Nagin wanted people to come back to places that didn't flood in Katrina and won't flood now. He wanted the other 300,000 who live in places at risk from the current breaches to stay away for the time being.

i just left that area less than 30 mins ago. there is water on the road by the expressway extending to 4th street. This is a fact, i just saw it !! While i was looking at it i heard Maestri on the radio, i gues now i understand why the Katrina aftermath was such a fiasco. Maestri is a great guy, but he obviously depended on someone to give him his info that just didn't do their job.
