Update from Terrebonne Parish
This is how we fared here in northwest Terrebonne Parish. We got a very heavy squalls after 9 p.m. I went to bed, but the winds were howling so loud that it was difficult to sleep at first. Around 11 p.m. I woke up because I started to feel hot. My ceiling fan was off. So, that is when I relized we lost power. Power was out about an hour and a half. We got some very heavy rain last night and very gusty winds. I am estimated that they were around 60 mph possibly gusting to hurricane force. It is getting very overcast and dark over here once again as I type this. Winds are very gusty. Almost all of southern Terrebonne Parish is under water. I am hearing reports of water up to windows in some of the people's homes. I have a feeling that our fishing camp down Bayou Dularge (below Houma) may be gone. It is on the water, so you got to take a boat to get to it. So, it may be awhile before we can check on it.

Hey Cajungal!
My family owns a camp down in Bayou Dularge too...we go there most weekends and I've been worried about it...I spoke to my Dad and he was telling me that HTV was showing footage of all the water down there. I hope your camp is ok..... Just glad we are all safe! We are pretty lucky once again....we managed to lie right between the track of Katrina and Rita. Take care!

So glad that you are safe. I understand how you could sleep. The emotional toll of anticipating the storm is exhausting. We slept through the back half of a direct hit from a CAT 4 and never heard a thing. Others said they were scared to death and didn't believe that we were sleeping. When we got out of bed, the water was up to our knees!!!

Hey Cajungal....my neighbor's annemometer clocked a few gusts over 80mph so we definately had hurricane force gusts....and how far away from the center were we? That one feeder band that you were talking about stayed over Houma for over 2 hours with torrential rains and strong winds. My power went out around 11:30pm and came back on today around 10:30 this morning.
It's not sounding good for the southern part of Terrebonne Parish. One of my parent's workers had to be rescued from her home last night just after midnight. Her home is 10 feet high and she had, as of this morning, over 5 feet of water in her home. So that's 15 feet of water, and the water is still rising. We definately need a change in wind direction.

Skysummit, I guess you and I were right on the money for landfall. When the NHC kept saying Texas Galveston or Matagorda Bay for possible landfall, I went with my own gut prediction. I nailed it almost after it went just south of the keys. I already had made my prediction of TX/LA border with the eastern eyewall on Cameron Parish.
Oh, I got to to tell my storm2k family what we did last night. For us Houma residents we have a local station owned by a man named Martin Folse. HTV. He uses a stick to predict where the storm where land. The cajun tool of meterology. And Martin will crack me up, he will bend himself in a 20 mph wind and act like he is getting blown away. So, before the worse came through last night, I got my digital camera out. I made a video of my neighbor and she leaned herself to the wind. Acting like she was getting blown away. We were still getting tropical storm force winds then. But, she overdramitized it, and it was funny. I downloaded it to the computer, made a short movie about it. We were all cracking up watching it.
