If Dennis is Retired....
Rita will certainly be retired. Dennis was much weaker and such a small storm compared to Rita!!! Rita has flooded the entire LA. Coast and had a much larger span of damage. Many are comparing the two, but there is no Comparison.

I am sure Brent's post was not meant to be offensive. He said that the damage Dennis did in Cuba was enough alone to get it retired. That means, even if Dennis had died out somehow or gone out to sea, it still would have been retired.
I assure you that Brent is probably not excluding the damage toll in Florida and Alabama by any means. He knows the damage in Florida is bad, and he would probably feel sorry for your friends, just as I do. May your friends have a safe recovery.

I didn't mean it that way.
I meant IF Dennis had ONLY hit Cuba it would have been retired.
I've been to Navarre Beach and the area where Dennis hit... I understand what's down there, you just misunderstood my post.

If that statement is offensive to you...then you are way too senative. He means (and I think everyone understood it) that Cuba damage ALONE (by itself...with no other considerations) would be enough to retire the storm. It's like me saying Rita's strength alone would be enough to retire her. In that statement I am not in all lessening the damge to TX/LA and other places. I am simply stating that the third strongest Atlantic storm on record with an 897mb pressure will be retired regardless of whether she had hit land or not. So...if Dennis had hit Cuba...moved into the GOM and dissipated, he would still be retired.

I agree. I live between Milton and Pace and Dennis packed quite a wallop. While not as widespread as Ivan I personally feel that Dennis was a stronger storm in Santa Rosa county. It certainly was at my house and in Milton in general. A storm definitely does not have to be large in size to pack quite a wallop. Thank goodness it was fast moving and weakened just prior to landfall.

A few days ago, I was finally able to drive down and see Dennis's damage between Fort Walton Beach and Pensacola; even though I knew it was bad......I was still stunned by the images I witnessed
If there was ever any doubt in my mind as to Dennis's intensity at landfall.....they dissapeared as soon as I crossed the calm blue waters over the causeway and witnessed the carnage; from still sunken sailboats in the intercoastal waterway to obliterated beach homes and badly damaged beachfront hotels/ condos.....to all the sand from destroyed dunes; sand everywhere.
I attempted to drive from Navarre Beach westward to Pensacola Beach in my jeep, but the roads are still in very bad shape (law enforcement stopped me 2-3 miles west of the Navarre Beach bridge; said the road ahead was too treacherous, even for my 4-wheel drive vehicle).....so I may not have seen the worst destruction, but from what I saw.....Dennis was clearly a major hurricane at landfall; as bad as what I witnessed after Frederic on Dauphin Island and at Gulf Shores.
Speaking of Gulf Shores.....I was also quite distressed at the still apparent major damage to that area caused by hurricane Ivan, as well as on Pensacola Beach. To see an area I've loved since childhood so utterly destroyed and still in dissarray was beyond disheartening.
