#1 Postby chrisnnavarre » Mon Sep 26, 2005 10:45 am

From Mobile to the Florida Panhandle the southern remnants of Rita is causing lots of rain here... I mean man it's pouring... Southern remnant seems to be reaching out into the gulf as well.

I don't know about down there, but it was much needed up here. First time the ground has been wet since Katrina. I didn't get nearly as much as the 2-4 inches that other places got though.

Just move to the Pensacola airport. They reported less than 1 inch this morning. It may change later today. Seems they always get less rain than anyplace else in Escambia county. I know we have had over 3 inches of rain where I live. If it is in the summer, their temperatures are always lower than I record. If winter the temps are higher. Rainfall is always lower.

We are way above our yearly average here. Would like for some of it to go to Arizona or someplace that really needs some rain.

Here in Fort Walton Beach, it has been pouring non-stop for a couple of hours. We must have at least three inches and it is still raining hard.

Been steady in Destin for hours also, my weather station has almost 5 inches measured since it started. This is no unusual for down here though. I remember in April i was in North Pensacola and we got 18 inches in 24 hours. so when a hurricane may drop 12 inches I just shrug it off asm that is not that big of an event for down here.

Pensacola has received almost its average September rainfall total in two hours today.

More than 5 inches of rain fell at Pensacola Regional Airport in two hours. National Weather Service Doppler radar estimates show that extreme northern areas of Escambia and Santa Rosa counties received between 6 and 8 inches.

Flooding reports poured in throughout Escambia County and parts of Santa Rosa County. Pensacola Junior College reported flooding, with people pushing flooded vehicles out of the inundated parking lots.

The rain has subsided in northern parts of Escambia County, and should be out of the area within the next few hours, said Don Shepherd, National Weather Service meteorologist.

Escambia County emergency officials reported flooding along Interstate 110 near Brent Lane, Michigan Avenue and Clifton Road, and several areas where flooding occurred during April deluges, said Mike Moring, Escambia County emergency dispatch supervisor.

5.63 inches in Pensacola FL is a September 26th record.

Mobile AL rainfall...Trace.

Talk about uneven distribution.

Back in late March or early April I remember I recorded 14.5 inches of rain in 24 hours. That was amazing cause alot of that fell in a 6 or 7 hour period. Just imagine the heaviest thunderstorm you can, it trained over my area for hours. I had to drive about 6 miles home from work and it was not fun at all. I drove through 2 feet of water most of the way and was just hoping I could keep my car on the road.

Ah yes I remember. March was an incredibally wet month for the entire southeastern U.S. March 31 was the date of the Pcola deluge.
