Massive Ridge Develops Across Entire N. Atlantic and E. U.S

#1 Postby gatorcane » Mon Sep 26, 2005 9:35 pm

Are we really approaching October? The link to the GFS 144 Hr shows some of the strongest ridging we have seen all summer. The entire north atlantic and eastern third of the United States are under very strong ridges

http://moe.met.fsu.edu/cgi-bin/gfstc2.c ... hour=144hr

Let's hope the CV train doesn't get going and that there is no homebrew that will develop over the next week.

Thoughts and comments welcome.

Oh wow... That certainly does NOT look like October! Whew... I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I seriously doubt we'll even go a week without another storm. Just looking at 99L... Oye... :(

I second that "Oy!"

Can mid-lat fronts weaken an Atlantic high and turn systems in the Atlantic, or are they too far north for that -- unless they are so deep they bring cool air into Florida, which usually takes until Oct or later here?

I understand that we don't want fronts dropping too low when there are Caribbean or GOM systems, cause they get turned toward FL (Charlie).

Trying to learn more about how fronts/highs alter tracks, so any comments welcomed.

I read on Hurricane City.com message board that it could be another Houston/Galveston threat. If 99L develops at all.

Other models are agreeing with the GFS:

CMC: http://moe.met.fsu.edu/cgi-bin/cmctc2.c ... hour=144hr

NOGAPS: http://moe.met.fsu.edu/cgi-bin/nogapstc ... hour=144hr

These ARE Monday's 12z models, so there might be some changes, but for now, they all agree.

All three systems look like the weather over here in Germany will be very nice in the next week but it is worrying as everything approaching 30N will turn west and chances for fishes aren't good at all.

The Gulf coast states just cannot take anymore hurricanes :( I'm not really sure NO will ever recover, nor parts of other communities in LA and MS . Another hurricane or two and those areas will forever look like the 3rd world

yah i agree, maybe it should just be a tourist area like the keys, not many people live there and the ones that do get out when they are told to.

I would say the chances are pretty good if the ridge gets in place and keeps everything from curving off to the north then they wont have any where else to go except south of florida
