The *Hurricane Sunset*

#1 Postby Swimdude » Mon Sep 26, 2005 8:17 pm

We had this amazing display on Friday evening... I caught it on video camera, but not with a digital camera, unfortunately. Anyway, I remember seeing one recently associated with Katrina...

So if anyone has their own personal hurricane sunset pictures, or can find any, post them here. Include what hurricane it was! :D

Thought this might be fun. Here's one to get us started...

The Friday night sunset here in NW Houston was nothing short of spectacular.

Both from Rita's End as she went over my area yesterday as a tropical depression. I have some from Katrina too but I am too lazy to go find them on disc right now. Maybe in a while.

Ah yes, the famous Orange Glow. We get that in Southern California also, if you have just the right timing you can see the sun shine in as it is setting behind the oncoming marine layer. It's quite spectacular but it only happens once every few days, marine layer doesn't always come that early.

Great pics guys. Keep 'em coming!

My girlfriend and I were on the phone, and all of a sudden she said, "Annnd there's this really weird orange glow coming from the window..."

I jumped up and yelled "HURRICANE SUNSET!! I'll call you back in 20 minutes!!"

Then I ran and got the video camera. :D

[This was Rita, by the way.]

 OMG That is the exact same sunset we had the night before Rita. It was gorgeous. I did not even think to take my digital camera out to take a picture. I regret it now. We don't usually get sunsets that beautiful.

Yes. I saw that sunset with Katrina and Rita as they passed through South Florida. I also remember one from last year's Florida Hurricanes as well.

This was taken on August 14,2004 about 20 miles nw of
Charleston harbor as Hurricane Charley was passing off the coast.

*Sorry, I couln't link it*

Noticed a good sunset after Opheila moved up the coast (finally!) but was at work and not able to get a picture.

What is the phenomena that is responsible for the great sunsets after a storm passes?

Woah AWESOME picture from Irene! Goodness, wasn't that back in the day before digital cameras? Or... At least before they were popular in the public... Very nice everyone! :D Much more participation here than I had expected!

The Irene pic was taken with a digital camera, albeit one that didn't have a lot of megapixels. It was a Sony Mavica, one of those cameras that recorded the images on floppy disks. Unfortunately that's the maximum size image and it's low resolution.

Today I have a Canon 20D which rocks my world. I hope I don't have to take any hurricane sunset pics soon, but if I ever do it will be with that camera, and shot in raw format, I could blow it up to cover a wall if I wanted to.

I loved your Jeanne pic, by the way.

I had not posted an image before and it worked. All I did is post

<img=http://www.whatevertheaddress.com></img>

You have to upload the image on a hosting site first and link to that. I have my own website so I just used my own server address, but I think a lot of people use ImageShack.

Try it and then hit preview to see if this works before hitting the submit button.

I've disabled HTML in this post just so you can see what the code looks like. If I hadn't, you'd just see a broken image icon instead because the address doesn't link to a real image.
