Why does a Warmer Pacific cause less Hurricanes in the ATL
So a warmer pacific causes less hurricanes int he Atlantic, and a Cooler Pacific causes more hurricanes. On Average during El Nino years there are fewer Hurricanes, and during La Nina on average there are more hurricane. Why?

The windflow over the Tropical Atlantic at high levels of the atmosphere are generally westerly during a Niño season and westerly up on top is death to hurricanes because of the shear. During Niña seasons the reverse is usually true. One productive line of research would be to see if we can establish a connection between the phases of the PDO and AMO-that would have importance in other areas besides the hurricanes.
