I totally agree as well. It is also rude to make fun of others' names. Does anyone think Katrina is a funny name? Maybe before the diaster, but NOT AFTER.

Names may sound funny, but I bet the people in Taiwan who are staring down a vicious storm don't think so. Safety and wisdom passses idle foolishness about storm names. REALLY.

They have alot strogner houses/building codes. A cat4 normally doe's not do nearly as much damage as the United states. They get hit a whole lot more then us to. So they understand.

In plus it will likely weaken like this one.

So? Rita weakened, and look at the devastation it caused.

Still, that was not the point I was making. I was making the point about storm names - don't make fun of something because you never know, it may come and bite you back some time.

I wonder if those who made fun of Longwang (the name of the storm) never experienced suffering after a storm like the victims of Rita and Katrina did.

Just watching the Taiwan news on satellite - it's nice to see people there taking this very seriously and boarding up shops and houses on the east coast. Some people are in trouble - they just showed the inside of some building and the roof was a patchwork of fiberglass and corrugated metal sheets. Most homes are built of heavily-reinforced concrete and will stand up to nearly anything, and the east coast is sparsely populated. The real problem is going to be over one meter of rain dumping over 90% of the island.

No more typhoons! I'm flying over there two weeks from today.

In case anyone is curious - the name comes from the name of a Chinese god that lives in the sea and controls all the wind and rain. "Long" is Chinese for dragon, and "Wang" means king (pronounced with a long "a" sound).
