I am a great optimist when it comes to winter weather here in south carolina although we rarely see anything that amounts to much however Ive been reading on several weather sites that this winter we should expect a significant winter weather event here this year...does anyone know if this is a legit forecast or just -removed- ......also if its true could someone explain what it means by significant winter weather event.

Well it is always nearly impossible to predict such events months apart, but they can give us a general idea of what we could expect. A lot of it is -removed-, but some of it is solid analysis. But don't take what they say as an indication of what will happen...it is of what may happen...we have enough problems forecasting storms 2 days in advance...

I would say a significant weather event in South Carolina would be anything over three inches. In other parts of the country, it is different. For example, an inch of snow in Florida would be significant, while a foot in upstate NY/Michigan would hardly be considered significant.
