Graduation Gifts

#1 Postby azskyman » Sun May 18, 2003 10:49 pm

Whether grade school, high school, or college, most of us know someone who is graduating during these days and weeks.

For those of you who ARE graduating, which would you prefer, CA$H or a gift? Anything specific?

And for those of you on the giving side, will it be CA$H or a gift? And what makes a good graduation gift these days?

We have two on our graduation list this year...and both will get CA$H from us this time...as both are in need of a jump start for a college career. Our gift, of course, will perhaps buy the first pizza on the first day...but that's a start nonetheless.

How about in your world?

My youngest stepson wanted a Landsknecht flamberge (wavy-bladed) broadsword, about 6' long and weighing in at 6 lbs.

As for "firehead', he's asked for a ca. 1250 AD Templar battle sword reproduction. Both of these weapons are available, if one knows where to look for them (which, of course, I do).

Sad to say, although I'd love to accomodate the boys, it isn't within the "privy purse" to accomplish.

That's what I was going to say - money. We've had many nephews/nieces graduate already. They all seem to want cash.

Actually the same goes for First Communion too. I learned the hard way. My girls recieved many, many religious type gifts. So many that we had to rotate them, hang this cross for a while, take it down, hang Aunt so and so's next. We've had some nephews make their FC now and they just want simple crosses. I buy them very masculine ones, to hang on their wall that they'll keep up all thru HS. Or a simple cross necklace on a leather strap (that $5 gift once was the best one I heard! Shocked!). So now it's the simple cross, and the rest is cash. Boy are the kids thrilled.

Sorry to mention another occasion but some FC could still be going on. Confirmation's too.

Last year I gave $$ for graduation. This year, it will depend on the person. If I know they're going to blow it on their Senior Trip, I'll give a nice gift.

My son liked his cash gifts last year but his went into his savings account. He likes to watch his $$ grow!
