Anybody noticed flare of convection right off Africa!

I think that is TD 19 - the same one I said might have been Stan yesterday when it was VERY WELL organized. Today, however, it is looking VERY POOR.

There is already a thread on TD 19 as well. Comments may be welcome there!

I don't think so, that blob is much further to the east, it's southeast of the Cape Verde Islands.

Oh... now I see it. It is east of TD 19 and southeast of the Cape Verde Islands. It is a small area of fairly deep convection.

It looks pretty good but we will not see any development that far East out in the Atlantic this time of the year. Conditions have not been right for any Cape Verde storms this year so far to develop off the African coast. TD 19 will soon be history. There is just not much favorable areas out in the Atlantic right now for development. Maybe in a week or 2.

If this area continues to consolidate quickly we may see some
tropical development.

AN EASTERN ATLANTIC OCEAN TROPICAL WAVE IS ALONG 21W/22W SOUTH
OF 20N MOVING WEST 10 TO 15 KT. IT APPEARS THAT THIS WAVE
POSSESSES AT LEAST SOME SENSE OF CYCLONIC FLOW IN THE VISIBLE
IMAGERY AS IT HEADS TOWARD THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS. SCATTERED
MODERATE TO ISOLATED STRONG SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE
FOUND FROM 14N TO 16N BETWEEN 18W AND 21W.

It's official gone history. It has already fizzled out. If the eastern atlantic was favorable for development right now that other huge wave though about to come off the coast of Africa in this satellite infrared photo would be a CAT 4 or 5 no problem. http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/RT/EATL/IR4/20.jpg
