Taiwan has suffered many typhoons in the past, including super typhoons. August and September are usually the months where typhoons slam into Taiwan. Of course, Taiwan can get hit earlier and/or later in the year.

Taiwan, in a way, acts as a bit of a barrier for China. Typhoons that hit Taiwan tend to hit China in much weaker states. However, there is enough room between China and Taiwan for some strengthening to occur.

I was talking with a Chinese man from Taiwan as few yrs back. He said generally they receive no major damage. The homes a built to withstand the punishment these typhoons dish out. Have a nice day.

Another foot note: Typhoons barely strengthen over the Street of Taiwan between Taiwan and China, it is, if at all, only a possibility to maintain some strength as most of the Typhoons get ripped apart by the mountaineous (sp??) terrain of Taiwan.

Tiawan had plenty of CAT 5s just think what would happen if the US would get slapped by a CAT 5 many times over
