Will Stan re-emerge in the Pacific?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Will Stan re-emerge in the Pacific?

And if so, do they keep the name or change it?

The forecast dissipates it... there are 10,000+ foot mountains that it would cross and the circulation would likely not survive. If it did redevelop, it would get a new name unless somehow the current circulation made it. Very unlikely though.

Well, storms survive over Cuba sometimes so it could.

I believe it would keep the name... in 2001, I believe the WMO decided that if storms crossed a continent like that, they would retain the original name.

I could be mistaken, though.

But I doubt there will be anything left of Stan to do that, though.

It has to keep the original circulation.

and Cuba doesn't have 10,000 foot mountains and also Mexico is a LOT wider.

The chance is extremely small, if not zero.

Correct... the name will remain ONLY if the circulation remains intact. The chances of that happening are very limited. It is extremely difficult... next to impossible... for the circulation to remain after crossing such high altitudes for such long distances. I'd rather take my chances at winning the lottery two weeks in a row.

It won't make it. The GFDL isn't right this time.

Ha, I was right. Half of it made it to the Pacific, but they're naming it Pilar. The other half will be Vince.
