I am ashamed to be an Alabamian right now after reading that. It has been all over the news here. First I disagree with him big time. As a christian I believe that the God I believe in does cause natural disasters to punish people. Honestly I believe he was there trying to protect those and was there with the ones that didn't make it trying to ease their pain and suffering.
I believe God is there in the aftermath trying to help people by working miracles. The angels are normal every day people who have sent aide and personal help to the areas affected.
It really makes me sick to see someone say this and claim he is a Christian because to me that turns people away from Christianity when they need something positive to believe in during a time like this.
And I like the idea of strapping him to a bridge during the next hurricane. One thing I hate about Alabama is that you have your Christians and then you have what they call your holy rollers. He is a Holy Roller! I would love to know what denomination he is. I bet he is from the backwoods of Alabama and he picks up snakes and prays to them. Yes that goes on in the backwoods of Alabama. Scary!

In the article as posted, he belongs to an "Independent Church", beholden to no denomination or oversight...ergo, it would seem that he picks and chooses what parts of Scripture he likes, ignores the rest, and goes on from there.
Like so many others... The sad part, though, is guys like this get press.

Only because "bad news IS news"...the more controversial or inflammatory, the better. Let's face it, ladies and gents; much of the media LOVES nutcases like this guy. His statements allow them to try to paint all believers, of whatever faith, with a broad brush of "intolerance, hate speech", you-name-it.

I think it is probably all very clear to us why this fella is "Independent",
now, eh?

Had to stop mid-thread here...I just re-read Stormy Weather recently (I caught the reference and hooray you for saying it) and wished there were more like him (the Gov) around...Carl Hiaasen, in my opinion, has the whole situation down cold...and all the sorrow in the world doesn't seem to matter in the face of greed where Florida (and I'll toss in the rest of the coastal Gulf states in particular) are concerned

As for the senator from AL...who voted him in? What was his platform? Beyond nutcase, his statements were revolting. I read about all that the true *Christians* and other religious groups are doing...and continue to believe in the silent workers who get the job done, with little or no mention. That is where God is.

There is more at the link I posted above.
Hurricane Katrina damaged the city of New Orleans in what seems like biblical proportions. Some say the human suffering alone could be a part of God's plan.
Reverend Franklin Graham, son of Reverend Billy Graham, suggests the city was targeted because of the city's sinful reputation.
At a speech in Virginia, he said, "This is one wicked city, OK? It's known for Mardi Gras, for Satan worship. It's known for sex perversion. It's known for every type of drugs and alcohol and the orgies and all of these things that go on down there in New Orleans. Reverend Graham continued, "There's been a black spiritual cloud over New Orleans for years. They believe God is going to use that storm to bring revival.

Well, even though I think it's rotten focusing, being a word freak I will say that there is a huge difference in saying God MADE that storm to bring rivival and God is going to USE that storm to bring revival. One is about cause, the other about (possible) effect.
Of course, I think the revival needs to be in bread and bricks at this moment and let God sort out the rest.
