This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Will there be a Tammy?

#1 Postby gatorcane » Tue Oct 04, 2005 7:24 pm

Just wondering everybody's thoughts on whether we will have another tropical system or not. Besides the 92 invest, it's looking very quiet in the tropics and we are almost through with the first week of October.

Katrina and Rita took alot of heat out of the GOM. In addition the Atlantic waters off of FL and the Bahamas have cooled due to 92L invest's persitence in the area. The southerm GOM and NW Caribbean have also cooled due to Stan.

There is a climatological (second) peak in mid October but after that the frequency of storms developing drops off dramatically. Keep in mind that this season featured and above normal July which historically has meant a slower later season.

I think a few more storms are possible, I mean just because everywhere is quiet doesn't mean it will stay that way. Last year Otto formed on the last day of hurricane season so I'm sure we will get Tammy. My prediction is either Wilma will be the last one or Alpha.

Threads like this are silly. We have nearly 2 more months left of the season and theres always the chance of storms developing in December.

Without a doubt. Polls like this shouldnt even be considered.

Yes...

Now a good poll would be "Will Tammy come from 92L?" which is much more debatable...

It is very unlikely 92L will develop.

That would make a good poll.

But it seems like after every storm since Katrina, we've had "Is the season over?" polls.

I never thought it would be much, but it's really looking unlikely now. New models basically take it up the Peninsula and then North and NE.

This poll so far is leaning towards a resounding "yes." It's what I expected but let's see if there are some more "no's." Katrina/Rita/Stan and 92L took alot of heat out of the homebrew waters and that is what is favored climatologically going forward here.

To me there is a reasonable possibility that nothing else develops but a depression or two the rest of the season.

The poll should say, "Will there be an Alpha"?!?

Yes. Tammy and Vince will happen. Wilma is a good possibility. Alpha and Beta are about 50-50. Anything after that is highly unlikely.

In my opinion Tammy will happen as I doubt we'll reach the end of the season without at least 1 more named storm. Vince and Wilma probably, after that I'd want to know more to hazard a guess.

Just because we have had a hyperactive season thus far does not mean we will be going off the charts to the greek alphabet. It may be a bit premature to have a pole like this but it's time for the tropics to slow down. With alot of the homebrew waters in the GOM and Atlantic waters off of FL cooled down considerably from the recent storms, nature has done her job. Thus, the possibility of not seeing another tropical storm or hurricane the rest of this season seems reasonable to conjecture at this point.

Yet people read it and post replies, so I guess it's of interest to some.
