rita takes a toll on keys' cman platforms

just one month after being restored to service, DRYF1...the dry tortugas CMAN platform failed on 9/20 during the close approach of a rapidly intensifying rita. it had been destroyed during the passage of charley in august 04. in addition, SANDF1...the CMAN platform at the sand key reef light, 9mi ssw of key west, failed earlier on the same day. wave action to 27 and 18 feet respectively. this sites provide "ground truth" for marine forecasters in the florida straights and the extreme southeastern GOM.....rich

Seems MLRF1 Molasses Reef and the Florida Bay buoy NFBF1 have had sporadic outages lately, not sure if it's related. Florida Bay is still out at this time, Molasses Reef is working.

Wonder why it takes so long to inspect and repair these things?
