What is the record for number of hurricanes to form in one season.


Also Vince is already over cool water. I think he should do much better over its enviroment then a normal hurricane. So its not out of the quastion we could get a landfal. IF the trough is a little slower.

well I just dont know what to say right now. I have always read and been told that Hurricanes ONLY form when SST's are over 28c. Clearly that is no longer the case.

Will be interesting to see how this system will affect me if at all but crikey - I am gobsmacked!

Like I said I think if the temperature range between the upper/lower levels are right then you can get a hurricane with cooler SSTs? But Thats just a theory.

The water where Vince formed is only about 75 degrees F. Hurricanes are supposed to form when ocean temperatures are 80 or above. So how did Vince get to get to be a Category 1 hurricane?

The waters in the Atlantic were warmer than in previous years, especially in the GOM. That meant stronger hurricanes and maybe more hurricanes. Or at least I thought. This one-of-a-kind storm formed in cold water. That shoots that theory.

I checked out elmundo.es . They have nothing about a huracán or about Vince, other than people with that name. Do the Spanish and Portuguese know what's coming?

1. Its actually (at least according to NHC) fully tropical (is there such a thing as a subtropical hurricane to begin with?)
2. PK is in England, so it would be more prudent to mention it there.
