This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Will a Major Hurricane form during the rest of season?

#1 Postby cycloneye » Sun Oct 09, 2005 2:07 pm

The question is plain simple.Do you think that a major hurricane will form during the rest of the 2005 season?

My answer is yes in the area favored during this time of the year the Western Caribbean area.We will see what will occur. Also there is no el nino this year to cap the rest of the season distint from 2004.

I said no, because of unfavorable shear conditions, and cooler
SST's, but yet I think I will be wrong because the caribbean is still hot, and if shear decreases there, a hurricane could form, maybe even a major hurricane.

yes. the Caribbean is ready to make a big one... all that is needed is less shear. I'm going to make a wild prediction and say that Alpha will be a CV storm, forming on 21z on October 17th and will blow up in the Carib as a category 5.

With the Caribbean as 'unscathed' as it is at this point, it would take a miracle to prevent a major hurricane from forming in the area sometime in the next two months.

I said yes because maybe that will mean no

The one thing I hope from this strange system we are getting is that it lasts long enough to cool things off a bit here. But I know two days of what we were having would take us right back there...(I swear though, everyone I know agrees the air smells different in the mornings now - we're all feeling a switch that we hope lasts).

No, there will be no more significant storms this year--maybe a nuisance one or two, but nothing of consequence. SSTS no longer matter---heat energy is being consumed.

I think Major Cane will not happen.
Hopefully a couple of fish so we can get the "Historic ALPHA"!

IMO, I don't think we will have anymore major hurricanes this year. Maybe a weak tropical storm but thats about it till next year.

My gut says no, but I really have no idea, because everytime I've said something wouldn't happen this year, it has, so I'll just keep quiet this time and not make an official poll vote :D

Like another poster pointed out, it's not only possible, but likely that if a major hurricane forms in the Carribean, it will be a Greek storm. This is the 2005 season, remember? Heck, we only need two more stroms to reach Alpha. And in 1999 Hurricane Lenny formed in mid-November. A late October major storm in the Carribean will also be Hurricane Alpha (or Beta) if another tropical forms before it.

I must unfortunately say it is rather likely right now, until some drastic change occurs out there.

I think there's a good chance... I say yes. If it wasn't 2005, then I'd probably say no.
