This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Also Joan in 1988 was a mid-October storm, first detected on October 10th at 9N 43W...but had its origins near Cape Verde days before. That went on to bring stormy weather in the Southern Caribbean, along the North coast of South America..and eventually Central America...Costa Rica and Nicaragua..by Oct 21-22nd that year. By the time she was approaching the Central American coast..she had 125-135mph winds.

**interestingly, JOAN crossed over Central America and became Tropical Storm MIRIAM in the eastern Pacific on October 23rd...and threatened the west coast of El Salvador...was within 25 miles of San Jose Guatemala on October 24th...but did not become a hurricane again..in fact was weakening as it approached South western Mexico on October 25th.

Those might be extratropical transitions more likely.
