Hurricane Katrina damaged the city of New Orleans in what seems like biblical proportions. Some say the human suffering alone could be a part of God's plan.

Reverend Franklin Graham, son of Reverend Billy Graham, suggests the city was targeted because of the city's sinful reputation.

At a speech in Virginia, he said, "This is one wicked city, OK? It's known for Mardi Gras, for Satan worship. It's known for sex perversion. It's known for every type of drugs and alcohol and the orgies and all of these things that go on down there in New Orleans. Reverend Graham continued, "There's been a black spiritual cloud over New Orleans for years. They believe God is going to use that storm to bring revival.

There is more at the link I posted above.

Well, even though I think it's rotten focusing, being a word freak I will say that there is a huge difference in saying God MADE that storm to bring rivival and God is going to USE that storm to bring revival. One is about cause, the other about (possible) effect.
Of course, I think the revival needs to be in bread and bricks at this moment and let God sort out the rest.

Bricks?...

As in rebuilding would be my guess.

Wonder if some of these guys have ever been to New Orleans (ok, duh, I'm sure the archbishop on NOLA has) and do they realize it's about more than just Mardi Gras, voodoo, and the French Quarter. Do they understand what Mardi Gras is anyway and what many of us Catholics do afterwards?

And if it was really a way to punish the sinners, why was the French Quarter spared?

Reminds me of the 'news' story where Tammy Faye Bakker claimed Hurricane Hugo was God's retribution for the treatment of his goodly servant Jim Bakker (...yep, that bollocks was so silly it was re-telecast in prime-time news on the other side of the globe lol).

Oh, far from it. Some of the crap being said on a message board I normally post on was just unreal a day or two after the storm--and these were people who are from Mississippi saying the Coast rats deserved it because we're sinning casino-lovin' heathens.

They got their behinds handed to them in short order by the rest of the folks who can think for themselves, though. But those kind of people are everywhere. I can only hope they don't ever have to have someone tell them they deserve that kind of pain and suffering.

Like this topic... http://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=76111

Maybe it would be best if this topic were to put to bed now, too...instead of on and on and on...beating a dead horse so to say

So apparently no one else concurs that this particular topic should be locked...

The only thing that comes to mind after reading this strange drivel is Jimmy Buffet's song, "Fruitcakes".

Religion, religion.
Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa
Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa

Where's the church, who took the steeple
Religion's in the hands of some crazy a$$ people
Television preachers with bad hair and dimples
The God's honest truth is it's not that simple

It's the Buddhist in you, it's the pagan in me
It's the Muslim in him, she's Catholic ain't she?
It's that born again look, it's the wasp and the Jew
Tell me what's goin on, I ain't got a clue

Okay, back to Wilma Watch mode...
