Will this system be a N Gulf or FL threat

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Florida mets always sat don't worry about it. I rarely take a glance at what they say. I listen to Josh Linker for my weather and if he says yes worry, then I worry.

I've been away tending to post-Katrina stuff and family stuff (colds and stomach viruses have really been rampant here lately) and check back in this afternoon to find a most-likely-soon-to-be tropical storm--wow! Looks like we may have yet another storm in the Gulf. That's becoming a pretty common event, unfortunately. Well, if it does threaten the Tampa area, I'll have to blame a friend of mine. She and her husband just moved to Homosassa from here earlier this year. So, a tropical storm or hurricane hitting there is all their fault, right?!
As always, I appreciate all the great info from all of you.

If mets are all totally saying its not coming towards florida then they are misinforming people. A lot climatology and even some models have it coming that way

Yea, they really need to stop what they are doing. Telling people outright that this is nothing to worry about sounds like a NOLA met's job.

There are a HUGE number of skeptics in Tampa Bay that I know
that every time they see an invest or storm they say it is going to
texas or louisiana or it will miss us to the south- I get called
"obsessive", "hysterical", and other names just for monitoring
the tropics...

So if anything does head our way this year or next year, these ppl
would be unlikely to evacuate- and we would have a pretty
bad situation.

Yea, dont worry I dont think you believed them. I am actually specifically interested in what Tampa Bay's 10 says. I like them the most.

I dont really want a hurricane to come here but I would mind a mild storm that just gives some rain and little wind with no death/descrution. I am doing a reaserch paper and involves me going through a storm. I have tried going to see my dad in mississippi for Katrina but didnt work out. Then tried to go to Houston with a local met friend but didnt work out either timewise for me. I need something but no death/destruction.

Research papers aren't about experimentation.

Not a paper but really a project. I would be doing it with a professional meteologist so I wont doing some stuphid. And before say I am -removed- for something to come this way as a major cane then your wrong. We had major damage to our home in mississippi from first Katrinia and ivan last year and now a tornado spawned from rita. Its not fun and I know how it is.:(

Matt

I guess not a reaserch paper but an expearimentation project. lol

Local mets don't seem to be concerned about future Wilma atleast here in SE FL so I'll wait and see for now.

Not in my area. These stupid storms have a bad habit of whacking right alont the Manatee County-Sarasota County line. Besides, if Mother Nature is bound and determined to reclaim the barreir islands for herself, there isn't a much richer target than Longboat Key.

According to the NHC statement, many of the global models are underestimating the strength of the future trough. With this said, I would say the greatest threat would be south of Tampa Bay. Oh, here is their quote..."IF ANYTHING... THE GLOBAL MODELS TEND TO
DAMPEN THESE TYPES OF SHORTWAVES TOO MUCH... SO MY FEELING IS THAT
THE GFS... GFDL... UKMET... AND ECMWF MODELS MAY NOT HAVE ENOUGH
SHORTWAVE ENERGY EMERGING OVER THE SOUTHEASTERN U.S. BY DAYS 2-3
AND... THEREFORE... THE RIDGE TO THE NORTH SHOULD WEAKEN MORE THAN
INDICATED BY THOSE MODELS."
