How many canes have really made a

sharp right turn like the models are proposing. I was told by the mets on here that it takes time for a big strong system to make turns. Comments welcome..

Such turns are very, very common, particularly this time of year when systems move out of the deep tropics and enter the subtropics, where strong westerly winds aloft are dipping southward.

Plenty.. Canes can turn on a dime, loop, meander, etc... It's the speed that prevents it from turning on a dime..like everything else. But they can slow down and turn dramatically.. Michelle 2001 was the most recent system with a hefty and timely turn in a similar location..

Examples of a hard right turn from this approximate location: (all appear to be late season events)

Michelle - 2001 (Oct. 29 to Nov. 6)
Lili - 1996 (Oct. 14 to Oct. 29)
Keith - 1988 (Nov. 17 to Nov. 26)
Floyd - 1987 (Oct. 9 to Oct. 14)
How - 1951 (Sep. 28 to Oct. 8)
