My own personal Wilma thoughts..

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Tue Oct 18, 2005 5:26 pm

I'm a little nervous about this storm as she grows.. Basically because I've got a bad feeling what is about to be my 4th hurricane in a little over a year..

It may all start tomorrow or Thursday if the grocery stores start getting busier..

There will be alot of pandemonium here if the track stays the same and this reaches major hurricane status tomorrow.

I think it's being over-hyped here in Central Florida. Unless the track changes significantly we're in for some minor tropical force winds and a lot of rain. But of course because the media over-hypes it, we'll all be in for craziness at the grocery stores and long lines at the pump....all for nothing.

K man sounds complacent. It's actually I think a significant threat to us here.. It all depends how far north she is when the cold front picks her up..

I was here last year for all three of them. The only one that wasn't *way* over-hyped was Charley. That surprised all of us. It was intense. Jeanne and Frances were both non-events for us here in Orlando. They were just a nuissance and mostly due to everyone panicking before the storm. I'm not complacent, and I am keeping an eye on it. But I'm not going to join the hoards who will panic over what will most likely be a tropical storm for us. And yet, I'm sure I'll see people in my own neighborhood boarding up their windows, which is ridiculous.

It depends on what you mean by significant. You are on the periphery of the cone and the models have been trending south, which puts you even more on the fringe. Do you have several weeks' worth of supplies? Do you have a generator? If you don't want to hear scary winds, maybe you want to go up to Georgia for a long weekend.

As far as it being a "significant" threat to a county several hundred miles inland, I really don't think that would bear out, and even if it does? The coast gets hit with Cat 3 at most, so you get Cat 2 at best? Are you ready for that? If not you should be. Yeah, it's scary but it's a lot more scary for people in coastal areas who have to deal with surge.

I remember your posts from last year. You seemed very concerned about how every storm would affect you. I can relate, but you really are at an advantage being inland. You can prepare for a 1 or a 2 or a 3. You likely won't have to deal with a 4 or a 5 like those of us on the coast.

Josephine96....no tension from me. I'm just not one of these people who gets excited about the possibility of a storm coming my way. I'm not like the many here who always seem to predict that the storm will come their way, none of it based on data or facts, but on a "feeling". Saying that "Tampa is due" just isn't enough for me. I don't wish for anyone to get this storm, and right now the track has it south of us ( a good thing in my opinion...but I'm not so sure everyone agrees with me...some really want it, whether they admit it or not).

I just know that the hype will continue, and we'll all have to suffer through the consequences of the "pre-storm" crap because of it.

That's WHY they were hyped... because Charley was fresh in everyones mind. Just like this year after Katrina. Dennis wasn't nearly as hyped on TV because it was before that.
