Move over LBH, Wilma is now the bar by which rapid intensification will be measured. From TS to strong Cat 4 in 14 hours, 69mb drop in 8 hours.

Yeah, I commented on that <edit> the flight level increase </edit> in the recon thread.

When was the last time you saw that, Brent?

For reference information, the fastest any storm has strengthened was Typhoon Forrest (forgot what year), went from 979 to 879 mb in 24 hours.

I have an eye question. Right now it's a pinhole eye and is about to undergo a ERC according to the NHC. Will the eye stay small, relatively speaking, or will it expand before landfall? Meaning, if it's 5 miles across now, could it, say, get up to a 60 mile across eye at some point, or would it stay fairly compact over time because of the characteristics the storm has now?

Those cloud tops!!! Stan amazed me with his extremely cold cloud tops but Wilma is like something I've never seen in the Atlantic. That pinhole eye is unbelievable as well.
