And there's that obscene pressure drop, of course. 44mb in 2 hours!
The record for major hurricanes was set in 1961, and it was 7. So far we have not reached that amount, maybe if Stan would have stayed for 12 more hours over water it would have reached major status and we would now tie the record, but it didn't occur.

I don't why I woke up at 3 AM, so I decided to see the 2 AM advisory. After that, I can't close my eyes because I just think about this crazy monster.
Actually, the eye is so small, the plane couldn't enter it!

I think we may see Emily be upgraded to Cat. 5 at the end of the season, then the record of 3 cat. 5 in a season will also be broken!
actually 4 Katrina,Rita,wilma and emily

If that's true, then
Emily
Katrina
Rita
Wilma
All 5's
Either the peak intensities of many hurricanes of the past were underestimated or unrecorded, or we're really in a.....well, really bad cycle, to say the least. 2004 and 2005 have definitely been the worst two back to back years on record. I never thought I'd see anything like this.

OFFICIALLY, Hurricane Emily reached winds of 155 mph, almost a five but not quite. However, there is data that may indicate that between one advisory and the other, the storm could have reached cat. 5 for a few hours.
