Has there ever been a wind field like this?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Has there ever been a wind field like this?

This seems so radical to me that it's almost a new variety of hurricane.

We've got 884 mb pressure in the eye, 175 mph winds, and yet we have TROPICAL STORM winds in all but a tiny portion of the wind field.

This is something totally different IMO. There is no telling how this thing is going to behave.

That doesnt seem right for some reason, thats a small core of hurricane winds.

I read somewhere that hurricane force winds only extend 15 miles out from the center. So basically we're looking at a 30-mile-wide F3 tornado named Wilma spinning in the Caribbean. That sounds so much less punishing.

*shudder*

I wonder what the ERC will bring...

With a 2-4 mile wide eye, the core is completely reasonable, IMO. With such a small eye, the core is likely to be small as well and incredibly fast. Like someone said, it's an F-3 tornado of sorts.

I hope we can see some photos from the eye taken by the Hurricane Hunters. I mean, the eyewall cloudtops are over 10 miles high, and the eye is just 2-3 miles wide. I'd love to see that by daylight, if she holds together long enough for the next recon flight.
