Is 882mb in the Atlantic equivalent to 850mb in the Pacific
I was talking to someone in another message board, who claimed that since there is a large pressure difference in the atlantic and pacific basin, that 882mb storm in the Atlantic would be equivalent to a 850mb storm in the Pacific in terms of intensity. Is this really true?

Take 8mb of the Atlantic and take off 8mb off the Pacific= 882 and 850mb? No question this is the new pressure leader on this side of the Earth.jschlitz wrote:Actually, there is a difference. Here is what I have on my chart comparison:
Dvork 8.0 = 170knots = 196 mph = 890mb Atlantic MSLP = 858mb Pacific MSLP = Cat 5 SS
