I'm guessing the 122 kt is in the outer eyewall.

157 x .8 =121.6 surface
121 knots = 138 mph... cat 4 right?

If they reported 152 knot flight level winds and a 900 mb pressure--in the early afternoon--at the diurnal maximum--in the middle of an eyewall replacement cycle--I can't see how that could be good news at all. Just wait another six hours and then say it's good news. Considering the circumstances of an ERC and still CAT 5 winds, I can't see how this could be good.

894 mb... WOW. Lower than the NHC estimated. 894 mb is in no way a Cat 4.

Heh.
You know a hurricane is unbelievable when its pressure is that of the Labor Day storm while its undergoing its ERC.

1st vortex had 894 extrap, 2nd vortex 892. Either they missed the lowest pressure on the 1st pass (most likely??) or Wilma is deepening again  And am i reading this vortex right when it says the eye is only 1 mile wide? If so, that's just crazy

going through an erc and that pressure?!

there is very warm water and no shear ahead for at least another day. I bet Wilma surpasses her earlier 882! When she finishes the eyewall replacement and can start winding up again... look out!

We are truly witnessing history folks. Who ever would ahve imagined we would be lookign at a strom like this... let alone for the 3rd or 4th time in a season. And most of all... don't forget we are talking about WILMA here!

894 probably missed the lowest pressure the 900mb at 2pm was just a sattelite estimate. M. C4 tells you that the eye is 4 miles wide.

I don't have that website, but I have this one. This is like the one cycloneye uses to post the recon info.

http://asp1.sbs.ohio-state.edu/text/sta ... XXX50.KNHC

Here is one for vortex messages.
