Weaker convection - why?

While Wilma is certainly still very strong storm (possibly still Cat 5),
the convection has decreased significantly since last night, in fact even the red area is quite limited, unlike the sea of black we have seen 18hours ago.

Can anybody answer/guess why?

Upwelling? Dry air? Shear? Disruption of the inner core (ERC - different eyewalls fighting it out)? Solar wind speed? :lol:

My guess is that it's strictly diurnal in nature and we'll see that convection fire up again tonight.

these are my thoughts also, we should soon see some colder cloud tops due nighttime convective maxima
